Badge of Honor “Ruthkosky’s Run” November 13, 2016

November 13, 2016 Join us at McDade Park for the Inaugural Badge of Honor 5K/ 1K Run/ Walk. The Ruthkosky’s Run will support those that “Serve and Save” in our community by benefitting the Mental & Physical Health of NEPA Police Officers & Firefighters. The theme of this event is to break down the stereotypes & stigmas surrounding Mental Health. We encourage anyone struggling with symptoms of depression, anxiety, and many more to get the help they need. Our Law Enforcement Officers and Fire Fighters regularly cope with traumatic events, and unfortunately it can be seen as weakness if you ask for help with any mental or emotional battles you may be struggling with. This run will symbolize our support, and encourage first responders to maintain a healthy lifestyle that includes their mental health. We want to encourage others to take the potentially lifesaving step of reaching out for help.
Derek Ruthkosky, the race’s namesake, felt at home in the Taylor Borough Fire & Rescue fire hall, where his fellow volunteer firefighters considered him a brother.  He struggled alone and in silence with his mental health.  He was known as a selfless friend to everyone and is extremely missed.
LRJ Foundation is the premier regional nonprofit providing interactive Mental Health educational seminars in school, teacher in-services, corporate business workshops, and now expanding to assist our civil service members. Sponsorship and support is greatly needed to make this event a success, and provide much needed resources to our Police officers and Firefighters who selflessly serve us every day.
